Trump Imposes New China Tariffs as Mexico, Canada Avoid Trade War

Trump Targets China With New Tariffs as Mexico, Canada Avoid Trade War

President Trump's trade war with China escalated overnight as the U.S. imposed a 10% tariff on all Chinese imports. In response, China hit back with a 15% tariff on U.S. coal and liquefied natural gas, along with a 10% tariff on crude oil and pickup trucks.

Meanwhile, trade tensions with Mexico and Canada eased after both countries agreed to boost border security. Mexico deployed 10,000 troops to its border to curb fentanyl trafficking and illegal immigration, while Canada appointed a fentanyl czar and pledged $1.3 billion for border enforcement.

In a separate development, the White House designated Elon Musk a special government employee with top-secret clearance, giving him influence over government operations, including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Musk is advocating for deep budget cuts, calling the agency wasteful, while Democratic lawmakers push back, arguing that USAID plays a vital role in global humanitarian aid.

As the administration navigates trade disputes and national security concerns, further economic and political repercussions remain to be seen.
