El Morocco Hotel Demolition Approved After 100 Years
The owners of the former El Morocco Hotel have been granted permission to demolish the nearly 100-year-old building by the Historic Site Preservation Board. The board approved the demolition after determining the property no longer meets the criteria for historic significance. Once a popular 38-room hotel frequented by celebrities, the El Morocco Hotel underwent numerous changes over the years, eventually housing retail and restaurant spaces. Some community members have raised concerns about the loss of 1930s and '40s architecture along Palm Canyon Drive in recent years. Despite opposition, the demolition will move forward.
