Two Dead in Fatal I-10 Freeway Crash Identified
Two people have been identified following a fatal accident on the I-10 freeway yesterday afternoon. The crash, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m. near Washington Street, involved multiple vehicles, including a white Toyota sedan and two big rigs.
The victims have been identified as 49-year-old Carolina Navarrete De Leal of Coachella and 31-year-old Fabian Zamora of Indio. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of the Toyota sedan lost control and crashed into a blue big rig. The impact caused the big rig to crash into a red big rig that had been pulled over on the side of the freeway for tire service. Tragically, the driver of the service truck, who was working on the tire at the time, was killed, along with the driver of the sedan.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Following the accident, traffic was reduced to two lanes in the westbound direction for several hours while CHP officers investigated the incident.
The CHP is asking for any witnesses who may have seen the accident or have additional information to come forward to assist with their ongoing investigation.
