Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Jim Henson to Retire After 30 Years in Law Enforcement
After three decades of dedicated service, Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Jim Henson has announced his retirement. Henson, who has held multiple roles in law enforcement, will step down at the end of February, marking the end of a distinguished career in public service.
Henson’s law enforcement journey has spanned patrol officer, detective, sergeant, commander, and deputy chief before he was appointed as Desert Hot Springs' police chief in 2019. Reflecting on his career, he stated, "Serving the citizens of Desert Hot Springs has been the honor of my career."
City officials, including Mayor Scott Mattis, have extended their congratulations and appreciation for Henson’s leadership. Under his tenure, the department focused on strengthening community relationships, crime prevention, and public safety initiatives.
Upon Henson’s departure on February 28, Deputy Chief Steve Shaw will step in as interim police chief. The city has not yet announced plans for a permanent replacement.
Henson’s retirement marks a significant transition for the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, but his legacy of leadership and commitment to public safety will be remembered by the community he served.
