Nation’s First EV Ride-Sharing Service, Green Raiteros
In a groundbreaking move for Coachella, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the nation’s first electric vehicle (EV) ride-sharing service, Green Raiteros, took place this week. The service is operated by the Latino Equity Advocacy and Policy Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underserved communities with essential resources. Green Raiteros provides a sustainable, affordable transportation option for low-income families, farm workers, and those facing transportation insecurity.
The Green Raiteros service focuses on supporting individuals who need reliable transportation for work, medical appointments, and day-to-day activities. For those with medical insurance, such as Medicare or private insurance, rides are completely free when covered by the insurance provider. For others, the costs are minimal, with a fee of just $2 per mile for medical rides and $3.50 per mile for general transportation needs.
This service is open to the entire Coachella Valley, offering a much-needed solution to the transportation challenges faced by many residents. Green Raiteros aims to improve mobility, reduce transportation barriers, and help residents access critical services. Those interested in using the service can call 844-851-RIDE or visit the website at theleapinstitute.org for more information.
