Palm Springs City Reaches $500K Settlement with Kalura Trattoria
The City of Palm Springs has reached a significant settlement with Kalura Trattoria, a restaurant situated next to the historic Plaza Theater, agreeing to pay $500,000 for the acquisition of 20 feet of courtyard space in front of the theater. This move comes after city officials determined that the additional space is necessary to meet building and fire codes, ensuring safe and proper access to the Plaza Theater for patrons.
The settlement stipulates that the restaurant will be compensated for the space, and in exchange, Kalura Trattoria will be provided with a new outdoor dining patio, which will be relocated to a portion of the city’s right of way in front of the restaurant. The new patio will have seating for up to 60 people, allowing the restaurant to maintain its outdoor dining experience despite the changes.
City officials emphasized that the agreement balances public safety concerns with supporting local businesses. The addition of the outdoor seating area aims to enhance the restaurant’s capacity while ensuring compliance with safety standards, and the city is hopeful that the solution will benefit both the restaurant and the community.
