Fatal Traffic Accident in Whitewater Involves Wrong-Way Driver

In the early hours of this morning, a tragic wrong-way collision occurred in Whitewater, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old Palm Springs resident. Kenneth Montenegro was identified as the driver who caused the three-car crash. He was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near the Whitewater rest stop around 2:30 a.m. when the collision took place.

Montenegro was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other individuals were involved in the crash and were transported to the hospital. Two of them sustained major injuries, while the third person’s condition has not been disclosed. Authorities have confirmed that all lanes on the highway have reopened following the crash.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of the incident, including how Montenegro ended up driving in the wrong direction. No further details have been released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
