Palm Springs Officer in Training Accused of Murdering Fellow Officer Faces Bail Hearing After New Evidence Revealed

Julianna Granados, a Palm Springs Police community officer in training, returned to court today for a bail hearing after being accused of murdering fellow officer Nicholas Griego in a drunk driving incident on Thanksgiving morning last year. The court was presented with new evidence by the prosecution, including photographs of Granados with alcohol and text messages exchanged with her sister, which suggested that Granados continued drinking for weeks after the fatal crash.

The prosecution argued that this pattern of behavior showed a disregard for the gravity of the situation and led to the judge setting her bail at $1 million, a sum the court deems unreasonable for Granados to afford. Prior to the ruling, members of Griego's family spoke out, urging the court not to grant any bail, citing the severity of the crime.

Defense attorney John Patrick Dolan emphasized that Granados had no criminal record, came from a law enforcement family, and had been exemplary in her duties before the incident. If bail is granted, the judge has imposed strict conditions, including GPS and alcohol monitoring devices, and restrictions on Salas entering establishments that serve alcohol or being around people who are drinking. The case continues to unfold as the court weighs the new evidence in this tragic incident.
