First Atmospheric River to Bring Rain, Gusty Winds to Coachella Valley

RANCHO MIRAGE – Despite clear blue skies and warm temperatures, change is on the way as the first of two atmospheric rivers heads toward Southern California.

Tuesday will remain warm with highs in the low 70s, but winds will pick up significantly, especially in areas like Whitewater and Desert Hot Springs. By Wednesday, the first storm system will arrive, bringing gusts of 40-50 mph and light rainfall to parts of the Coachella Valley. Rainfall totals are expected to be minimal, with a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible near Palm Springs.

The second storm system, set to arrive Thursday into Friday, will bring heavier and more widespread rain. Forecast models show Palm Springs could receive up to an inch of rain, while areas near Indio may see around 0.4 inches. Coastal and mountain regions are expected to receive several inches of rain.

Temperatures will cool down with highs dropping into the low 70s before rebounding into the upper 70s by the weekend. Stay tuned for updates as these storms approach.
