Family Pushes for Change on Dangerous Highway 74 After Tragic Loss
ALTADENA – The fight for safer roads is intensifying after the tragic death of Tristan Bourgeois, who lost his life in a big rig crash on Highway 74. His family is now pushing for change, calling on lawmakers to take action to prevent similar tragedies.
On what would have been Tristan’s 28th birthday, his father shared an emotional letter honoring his son’s memory, describing him as a hardworking family man with a love for music, archery, and the outdoors. The Bourgeois family has started a petition to demand new regulations for Highway 74, including weight restrictions for large trucks.
Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez has stepped in to help, stating that his office is working with Caltrans to assess safety measures. “There are no weight limits on this stretch of road,” Gonzalez explained. “We need to explore making it a safety corridor with increased fines for violations.”
Highway 74’s narrow lanes and large commercial trucks have long been a concern, with residents and lawmakers now calling for immediate improvements. The Bourgeois family is determined to make sure Tristan’s death was not in vain, vowing to keep fighting until real change is made.
