Riverside County Sheriff's Department Educates Public on Electric Bike Laws Amid Rising Popularity

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is educating the public on California's electric bike laws as sales continue to surge, especially in Palm Desert. While electric bikes are becoming more popular, some e-motorcycles are being used on public roads illegally, raising safety concerns. Deputy Abrego warns that the laws will soon be strictly enforced, including restrictions on throttle-based e-bikes, class regulations, and speed limits. Riders under 16 are banned from using Class 3 e-bikes, helmets are mandatory for riders under 18, and e-bikes are for one rider only. Violations could lead to fines and impoundment.
