Riverside County Fair Gears Up for Opening Day Amid Wet Weather Concerns

The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival is preparing for another exciting year as it marks its 77th season at the Coachella Valley Fairgrounds. Starting February 13 and running through March 2, the fair will host festivities every Thursday through Sunday, bringing rides, games, food, and live exhibits to festival-goers. However, the fair is kicking off amidst concerns about the weather, with rain and wind expected in the coming days.

Festival organizers and ride operators are no strangers to unfavorable weather. Despite the wet conditions, they are ready to manage the challenges that come with outdoor events. “Rain is usually manageable for most rides, but high winds can cause issues,” said a spokesperson from the fair. Any ride taller than 40 feet must be tested for safety before it can operate in windy conditions, and attendees may be asked to wait indoors until conditions improve.

Food vendors are also prepared for weather disruptions. Many food stalls are located in covered areas, ensuring that vendors and festival-goers stay dry even if the rain falls. The community’s resilience has been proven through past extreme weather conditions, including heatwaves, high winds, and even COVID-19 restrictions.

For those concerned about the outdoor attractions, the fair also offers plenty of indoor exhibits and animal displays. Livestock exhibits are housed in dedicated buildings, and other indoor spaces are available for junior exhibits and other activities. Organizers stress that, while the sunny skies of the desert are preferred, they are equipped to handle any inclement weather with an abundance of indoor spaces.

Festival-goers can still enjoy the fair’s games and rides, with opportunities to test their luck at carnival games. Tiani Jadulang, live at the fairgrounds, had a chance to try her hand at a dart game, successfully winning several prizes.

With a long-running tradition of weathering the elements, the Riverside County Fair remains an essential event for the Coachella Valley. Whether you’re looking for thrilling rides, delicious fair food, or exciting exhibits, the 2025 festival promises something for everyone – rain or shine.

Make sure to come out to the Indio Fairgrounds for the festival, and don’t forget to try some fried Oreos, Tiani’s personal favorite treat!
