Palm Desert High School Triumphs in Round One of Basketball Playoffs, Prepares for Epic Rivalry Matchup
The first round of the local high school basketball playoffs for the Desert Empire League is now in the books, and Palm Desert High School made a statement with an impressive 78-63 victory over Jordan High School of Long Beach. The game, held at Palm Desert, saw the Aztecs enter the second half trailing by four points. Palm Desert came out strong, hitting multiple unanswered three-pointers to begin the second half, while breaking the full-court press by Jordan with ease.
The play of the game came courtesy of Jake Brand, who delivered a spectacular dunk off a baseline drive that left the crowd in awe. The highlight reel-worthy dunk was captured in slow motion, showing off the sheer power of the play and energizing the Aztecs. Palm Desert's stellar second-half performance was enough to clinch the win, sending them into the next round with momentum.
While Palm Desert celebrated their victory, Desert Hot Springs was knocked out of the playoffs by Anaheim, falling 61-68. Despite the loss, both Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs secured road wins in their matchups, setting the stage for a thrilling second-round contest this Friday. The game will feature a fierce rivalry between the Rattlers and the Indians, with both teams having won one game each in their previous meetings this season.
