Is Valentine’s Day Overrated? Couples Weigh In on the Holiday Debate
Valentine’s Day—a holiday for romance or just another overrated tradition? If you ask Americans, opinions are divided. A recent survey found that 64% believe the holiday is overrated, while more than a quarter of people think a great Valentine’s Day shouldn’t cost a dime.
On The Roggin Report, married couple Jamie and Doug Baker weighed in on the debate.
Doug didn’t hold back: “I think it’s always been overrated. Love isn’t about one day—it’s something you should appreciate every day.”
Jamie, a floral industry veteran, had a different perspective. “I’ve worked Valentine’s Day for nearly 30 years, and it’s always been huge. But even I think it’s overrated. You shouldn’t need one day to prove your love.”
Despite selling countless flower arrangements all morning, Jamie still didn’t bring Doug any flowers. “Nope. They’re overpriced.” Doug, laughing, admitted she did what she does every year: gifted him a beautifully wrapped empty box.
With many couples opting out of Valentine’s Day spending altogether, the question remains—is the holiday fading in significance, or is it simply evolving?
One thing is clear: whether you celebrate or skip it, love should never be limited to just one day.
