Road Closures and Construction Updates for President's Day in the Coachella Valley

This morning's President's Day parade in the Coachella Valley will result in several road closures, and there are also some ongoing construction projects that may affect your commute. Chris Gunderson has details in our Know Before You Go segment to keep you informed.

In Palm Springs, there’s a major construction project underway on Gene Autry, just north of the Aldi Shopping Center. Crews are working on the entrance to the store, so if you miss that entrance, you can use the back entrance to the store instead. With heavy equipment in the area, drivers are urged to slow down and be cautious.

Meanwhile, in Palm Desert, there’s construction on southbound Cook Street between Frank Sinatra and Fred Waring due to a landscape project. One lane is open, but traffic is expected to remain light in the morning. As the week progresses, particularly in the afternoon, it’s advised to slow down and stay to the right. Drivers can also use Portola or Washington to avoid congestion.

With fewer people in the valley because of the holiday, traffic is generally lighter, but there are still a number of visitors, so be mindful of your surroundings and drive carefully. Additionally, be aware of Firebird events on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday nights—expect heavy traffic around the start and finish times.

Above all, remember to slow down, avoid distractions, and stay safe while navigating these areas.
