CAL FIRE Captain Killed in Fatal Stabbing

With heavy hearts, we report the tragic passing of CAL FIRE Captain Rebecca "Becky" Marodi, who was found fatally wounded at her home in Ramona, San Diego County, on Monday evening. Deputies arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. following a report of an assault, where they discovered the 49-year-old victim. Despite efforts to save her, Marodi died at the scene. Investigators from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department have not publicly identified a suspect but suspect that the victim may have known her attacker. Authorities are still working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the homicide, with detectives focusing on potential domestic violence as a factor in the case.

Captain Marodi’s career in the fire service spanned over 30 years, beginning as a volunteer firefighter in Moreno Valley in 1993. She worked her way up through the ranks, serving in various operational assignments across Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. She promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer in 2007 and, more recently, became a Captain in 2022. Throughout her career, Marodi was also actively involved in Peer Support and Hazmat, prioritizing the welfare of her colleagues.

Her death marks a heartbreaking loss not only for her family and friends but for the entire firefighting community. Fellow CAL FIRE members have paid tribute to Marodi, remembering her dedication to service, mentorship, and her unshakable commitment to her colleagues' well-being.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Public Information Office.
