Rancho Mirage Faces Canyon in CIF Basketball Quarterfinals
🏀 The CIF Southern Section basketball playoffs continue tonight with Rancho Mirage High School taking on Canyon High School in the quarterfinals. The Rancho Mirage Rattlers, a young and determined squad, are banking on their resilience and home-court advantage to overcome the more experienced Canyon team.
Youth vs. Experience
While Canyon High brings a roster filled with seniors and juniors, the Rattlers’ youthful core—including sophomore Marcus Gregg Buchanan and freshman Cash Gervin—has been a driving force. In their previous game, the duo accounted for 37 of the team’s 50 points.
Head coach Ron Hanmer remains optimistic:
"Our young kids have really grown up this year. We’ve improved with every game. Canyon is senior-heavy, but if we stick to what we do best, we’ll compete."
Game Plan for Victory
Coach Hanmer emphasized the importance of spreading the scoring:
"When we get five guys in double digits, we’re tough to beat. But honestly, as long as we score more than Canyon, we’ll be okay."
The “Snake Pit”—Rancho Mirage’s home gym—has been a fortress for the team, and tonight they’ll need that energy more than ever.
