College of the Desert Offers Free Sexual Wellness Services
In a significant move to enhance student well-being, College of the Desert (COD) in Palm Desert is now providing sexual wellness services for students at no cost. The college has partnered with DAP Health to offer these vital services, ensuring students' health needs are addressed without financial barriers. Students can now access a variety of sexual health services every Monday at the Student Health and Wellness Center. The services are available to all students, regardless of their insurance status.
Among the services offered are STI testing and treatment, HIV testing, pregnancy tests, contraceptive consultations, and more. These services are designed to empower students to take control of their sexual health, providing them with the resources they need for informed decision-making. Daniela Cervantes-Elia, Assistant Director for Clinical Services at COD, emphasized that this partnership is not just about healthcare, but also about reducing stigma surrounding sexual wellness.
By collaborating with DAP Health, COD aims to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable seeking the care they need without fear of judgment. The initiative underscores the importance of accessible healthcare on campus, especially in an area as essential as sexual health. For more information or to access services, students can visit the Student Health Center at COD. This initiative represents a significant step forward in student health care, offering free and confidential services that cater to the needs of a diverse student body.
