SunLine Transit Agency is Hosting a Community Outreach Meeting in Indio

Sunline Transit is making strides in enhancing public transportation in Indio with the help of a grant from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP). The initiative focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving mobility in local communities. A significant part of this effort is gathering community feedback to determine the best ways to expand transit options to meet residents’ needs. The funding from LCTOP will allow Sunline Transit to extend service north of I-10 and beyond the city of Indio. According to Sunline representatives, the feedback collected from these meetings will be crucial in shaping future transit options. Not only is the agency focusing on expanding its presence in Indio, but it is also looking to improve access throughout the entire Coachella Valley. Reporter Brett Rosen was able to speak with the Director of legislative Affairs for Sunline Transit edith Hernandez about what this meeting means for the future.

“This is just the beginning,” said Edith Hernandez. “While tonight’s meeting is the first of three, there will be additional community engagements in other cities throughout the valley. We want to make sure that every voice is heard as we work to improve transit for all.”

The goal of these outreach efforts is to ensure that residents can voice their concerns and contribute ideas to improve public transportation services. A second meeting will be held tomorrow at Amistad Continuation School, offering another opportunity for the community to provide valuable input. And the last outreach meeting scheduled is for February 27th, and all meetings go from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. For continue coverage tune into NBC Palm Springs.
