Trial Begins for Adam Slater in 2020 Murder of 1-Year-Old Daughter

Opening statements are scheduled today in the trial of Adam Slater, the man accused of murdering his 1-year-old daughter, Madeline, in 2020. The case, which shocked the Coachella Valley community, involves allegations that Slater assaulted his estranged wife before fatally stabbing his daughter.

Authorities say the incident began with a domestic dispute that escalated to violence. After the assault, Slater fled with his daughter, leading to a police pursuit. The chase ended when Slater’s car crashed on Highway 74 and rolled down a hillside. Officers arrested him at the scene, where Madeline’s body was found.

Slater faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and assault on a child resulting in great bodily injury. He is currently being held without bail at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

The trial is expected to bring emotional testimony from witnesses, law enforcement, and forensic experts as prosecutors seek to hold Slater accountable for what they describe as a brutal and senseless act of violence.
