Firebirds Win Second Straight, Close in on Top Spot in Pacific Division

Welcome to the NBC Palm Springs Sports Desk. The Firebirds are heating up, with a 2-0 streak that brings them within three points of the top spot in the Pacific Division. Last night's win was key, as they continue to chase Calgary, who sits in first place, with Ontario and Colorado in the mix.

Looking ahead, the Firebirds will face a big challenge this weekend, with Calgary visiting Saturday night and San Jose coming to town on Sunday afternoon. The stakes are high for the Coachella Valley team as they push for playoff positioning.

Meanwhile, the Mary Nutter Softball Tournament has kicked off in Cathedral City, where some of the best Division I teams in the country are competing at Big League Dreams. This year marks the 21st edition of the tournament, which has games running all day across five different fields, including replicas of iconic stadiums like Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field. With teams like UCLA, Arkansas, and Tennessee among the top ten in the nation, this tournament is a highlight of the softball season.

Finally, the highly anticipated Four Nations tournament finale is taking place in Boston tonight, where the U.S. and Canada are tied 1-1 after the first period. The U.S. claimed victory 3-1 last week, and Canada is looking to bounce back and take home the inaugural Four Nations Championship. Stay tuned for a full recap and reaction tonight at 11 PM right here on NBC Palm Springs.

That’s your sports update for now. I’m Tim O’Brien.
