Suspect Identified in Fatal Stabbing of Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi
San Diego authorities have publicly identified the suspected perpetrator of the fatal stabbing of 49-year-old Rebecca "Becky" Marodi, a respected Cal Fire captain. Marodi was found dead in her Ramona home on Monday night, having suffered mortal wounds. Deputies arrived at the scene on Rancho Villa Road after receiving a report of an assault and discovered Marodi dead at the residence.
Investigators have confirmed they are searching for Marodi's wife, 53-year-old Yolanda Marodi, also known as Yolanda Olejniczak, in connection with the homicide. The couple had been married for about two years, according to family members.
Rebecca Marodi had served for over 30 years with Cal Fire, primarily in Riverside County, but also contributed to firefighting efforts in San Diego and San Bernardino counties. Investigators are still working to determine the events leading up to the deadly stabbing, and the motivation behind the crime is yet to be established.
Further examination revealed Yolanda Marodi's criminal history. In 2000, she was charged with the murder of James Joseph Olejniczak in San Bernardino County. She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, for which she served time in prison from 2004 to 2013.
Sheriff's Lt. Michael Krugh emphasized that detectives are committed to gathering more information to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Marodi's tragic death. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as they continue their investigation into this domestic violence-related case.
