Forever Marilyn Statue to Begin Relocation After Legal Dispute
The controversial Forever Marilyn statue in downtown Palm Springs will begin its relocation process on Sunday following a prolonged legal battle. The statue, which stands 26 feet tall and weighs 17 tons, has been the subject of a three-year lawsuit filed by the Committee to Relocate Maryland. The committee argued that the placement of the statue on Museum Way obstructed the view of the Palm Springs Art Museum and was an illegal closure of the street.
As part of the resolution, the statue will be moved approximately 100 feet away to Downtown Park, a location that the city and committee agree is more suitable. The relocation process is expected to be completed by next Friday, making way for a new art installment in a space that is both accessible and visually harmonious with the surrounding area.
This relocation marks the end of a lengthy legal dispute, allowing both the city and the community to move forward with a solution that respects the artistic and cultural importance of the statue while improving public access and view lines around the museum.
