BNP Paribas Open Begins This Weekend; Venus Williams Declines Wild Card

The highly anticipated BNP Paribas Open returns to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this weekend, bringing together some of the world’s best tennis players. The tournament begins with qualifying rounds on March 2 and runs through March 16, culminating in the championship weekend.

Fans hoping to see Venus Williams compete this year will be disappointed. The multiple Grand Slam champion was granted a wild card entry, but according to ESPN, Williams declined due to prior commitments. Williams reportedly learned about the wild card offer when it was publicly announced, leading to her decision to opt out of the Coachella Valley tournament.

BNP Paribas Open Tournament Director Tommy Haas acknowledged the news on social media, stating, “Our team has been informed that Venus is not accepting the wild card this year. We wish Venus all the best and hope to see her back in Indian Wells in the future.”

Despite Williams’ absence, the tournament promises intense competition with top players battling it out for the prestigious title.
