‘Forever Marilyn’ Statue Relocates in Downtown Palm Springs After Legal Battle

The iconic ‘Forever Marilyn’ statue in downtown Palm Springs began its relocation process on Sunday following a lengthy legal battle. The move comes after the Committee to Relocate Marilyn sued the city, claiming the statue’s placement illegally blocked Museum Way and obstructed the view of the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Standing 26 feet tall and weighing 17 tons, the sculpture has been a focal point—and a source of controversy—since its installation. The lawsuit, filed three years ago, argued that the city’s decision to close a portion of the street for the statue violated local regulations.

In response to the legal challenge, the statue is being moved approximately 100 feet to Downtown Park. City officials say the new location will still offer visitors a chance to appreciate the artwork without obstructing the museum’s entrance or views.

The relocation process is expected to be completed by Friday, allowing the public to enjoy the reinstallation just in time for the weekend.
