Lane Closure on Gene Autry Trail Causes Traffic Standstill
Southbound traffic on Gene Autry Trail came to a halt today, stretching from Dinah Shore to East Palm Canyon Drive. The lane closure caught many drivers by surprise, as the traffic in the area moved at a crawl. Reporter Brett Rosen spoke with a resident who was stuck in the traffic where she had expressed her frustrations.
“I didn’t expect the construction to be this extended,” said one frustrated driver. “We came through here about a week ago and it was the same situation. I didn’t expect it to be like this, and I don’t know why it’s taking so long.” Said Debbie, a local from Palm Springs.
Other drivers expressed similar confusion, unsure of how to plan for such delays in the future. Kris Gunterson, the CV SYNC program manager, provided more details on the ongoing Caltrans Paving Project, which spans an extensive eight-mile stretch along Gene Autry, Vista Chino, and Palm Canyon Road.
“It’s really tough to predict where they’re going to be because the locations change based on the availability of materials,” Gunterson explained. “The best way to stay informed is to check Caltrans’ social media pages for updates.”
With construction taking place in various areas around Palm Springs and the airport, Gunterson urged residents to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling through these zones.
