Tunnel to Towers Foundation Hosts Annual Golf Tournament at Mission Hills to Support Veterans and First Responders
In local news today, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation hosted its annual golf tournament at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, bringing together a passionate group of celebrities, former professional athletes, and golf lovers to raise funds and awareness for military veterans and first responders.
The event, which took place under sunny skies, featured a celebrity golf outing aimed at supporting the foundation’s mission of assisting military personnel, first responders, and Gold Star families. Retired battalion commander Jack Ohm of the New York City Fire Department, a board member of the foundation, shared his sentiments about the importance of the foundation's work.
“It warms my heart. It makes me feel as American as I can,” said Ohm. "We take care of the people that take care of us." He went on to explain that the foundation helps pay off mortgages, build smart homes for injured service members, and provide financial relief to families of fallen heroes.
The tournament was a heartfelt reminder of the sacrifices made by those who protect our country. The foundation, which was started by the family of Steven Siller, a firefighter who died while saving lives during the 9/11 attacks, continues to honor these heroes by supporting the families of those who serve.
In a touching tribute, Ohm spoke of the legacy of Steven Siller, a firefighter who, upon hearing about the 9/11 attacks, rushed back to his firehouse, only to perish alongside hundreds of fellow firefighters while saving others. This sacrifice sparked the creation of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, ensuring that the heroism of first responders and military personnel would never be forgotten.
"We cherish them, and they cherish us," said Ohm. "This is a great American story, and we’re here today to raise money to help those in need."
Attendees were encouraged to support the foundation with donations, and a special $11 a month campaign was promoted for those wishing to contribute. To make a donation, visit the foundation's website at t2t.org.
This golf outing was not just a fundraiser, but a heartfelt reminder of the community’s gratitude toward those who serve and protect the nation, making it a memorable day in Rancho Mirage.
