Animal Advocates Protest Euthanasia at Coachella Valley Animal Shelter
Animal advocates gathered on El Paseo today for a peaceful protest, demanding changes in Riverside County's shelter practices, particularly at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus. The protesters, who started their march around 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Portola and El Paseo in Palm Desert, were visibly passionate about one cause: stopping the euthanasia of adoptable animals.
"We need to be the voice for these animals," one demonstrator said. "Stop the killing of all the animals. They get killed, and it has to stop." The march brought attention to the ongoing concerns of local residents who believe more humane solutions need to be implemented in shelters.
The group of advocates, many carrying signs and speaking to passersby, voiced their frustration over the current state of animal welfare at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, a Riverside County-run shelter known for its controversial euthanasia practices. They are calling on Riverside County supervisors to stop euthanizing animals that could be adopted.
Residents participating in the protest emphasized that this peaceful demonstration would continue until meaningful changes are made. The protesters expressed their commitment to advocating for the animals and ensuring their voices are heard.
