"Forever Marilyn" Statue Begins Move in Palm Springs After Three-Year Dispute
The iconic "Forever Marilyn" statue is on the move in downtown Palm Springs after years of public debate and legal wrangling. This morning, crews began relocating the towering figure of Marilyn Monroe approximately 100 feet from her current location. The full installation is expected to be completed by Friday.
The three-year legal dispute centered around the statue’s positioning directly in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum, where critics argued that having Marilyn’s rear end facing the entrance was inappropriate and objectifying. Supporters of the statue, however, have largely dismissed the controversy as overblown.
"Some might say people here have too much time on their hands to argue over this," one resident remarked. "I think it’s cute—it’s a takeoff from the movie scene she was in."
The cost of the move, reportedly around $500,000, has also raised eyebrows, with some residents questioning the expense. "The location seemed fine to me," one local added.
Despite the debate, "Forever Marilyn" remains a popular attraction, drawing both tourists and locals eager to snap photos with the 26-foot-tall statue.
