Social Security Administration Closes Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially closed its Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity, with employees placed on administrative leave effective today. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline government operations and prioritize essential functions.
“Our focus is supporting President Trump’s priorities, which include streamlining functions and prioritizing essential work,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “Terminating this office and reassigning its responsibilities advances the President’s goal of making government more efficient in serving the American public.”
While the office has been dissolved, the SSA assures that Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints, reasonable accommodation requests, and other statutory duties will be transferred to other SSA departments to maintain compliance with existing laws.
This decision reflects an ongoing push for cost efficiency across federal agencies, though it has sparked concerns from advocates about how these essential services will be managed going forward.
