Acting IRS Chief Doug O'Donnell to Retire Ahead of Tax Season
The acting head of the Internal Revenue Service, Doug O'Donnell, will retire on Friday, marking the end of his 38-year tenure with the agency. His unexpected departure comes as the IRS prepares for the busy tax filing season.
O'Donnell expressed his deep appreciation for the agency and his colleagues, stating that he remains committed to the institution even as he steps away. He was appointed to the top role following the resignation of IRS Commissioner Daniel Warfel last month when President Trump took office.
Treasury Secretary Scott Vincent announced Tuesday that the agency's Chief Operating Officer, Melanie Krause, will serve as interim leader while a permanent successor is identified.
