Firebirds face Henderson, Nikke Kokko makes NHL debut & Desert Smash returns
Welcome to the NBC Palm Springs Sports Desk with Tim O’Brien, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos!
The Coachella Valley Firebirds are back in action tonight, facing Henderson in a crucial matchup as they chase a fifth straight win. Despite Henderson sitting at the bottom of the division, they’ve been a challenge for the Firebirds, winning two of their three matchups this season. With the standings so tight, one win or loss could shift them between first and fourth place. Puck drop is at 7 PM, with full coverage tonight at 11 PM and lineup updates at 6 PM.
In the NHL, Nikke Kokko made his debut last night in St. Louis, becoming the youngest player in the league this season at just 19 years old. Unfortunately, it was a rough night for Joey Daccord, who allowed five goals before getting pulled by Dan Bylsma. Despite the tough start, it's a milestone moment for Koko that he’ll never forget.
Off the ice, the BNP Paribas Open kicks off this weekend, bringing with it the return of the Desert Smash celebrity event on March 3-4 at La Quinta Resort and Tennis Club. This year’s lineup includes Naomi Osaka, Pink, Lance Bass, and LeAnn Rimes for an exciting mix of celebrity pickleball and tennis. For details, visit NBCPalmSprings.com.
