Forever Marilyn Statue Finds New Home in Downtown Palm Springs After Controversial Move
After years of controversy, legal battles, and public debate, the iconic Marilyn Monroe statue has found a new home in downtown Palm Springs. The statue, which has been an emblem of the city for years, was relocated earlier this evening, with her new position in a downtown park marking the end of a saga that has captivated the community.
Located just 75 feet away from her previous spot, the statue is now settled into her new resting place, where it’s expected to stay for the next 25 years. This relocation was the result of a series of legal disputes, and while many Palm Springs residents were upset about the move from Museum Way, others are happy to see Marilyn stay in the city. P.S. Resorts, the company that spearheaded the relocation, announced that the new location was a positive step for the iconic figure and the community.
Earlier today, Brett Rosen spoke with the chairwoman of P.S. Resorts about Marilyn’s new home. "Some people are really upset that she’s moving off Museum Way. Other people are just happy that she’s staying here. So I think, overall, it’s a positive thing that Marilyn’s going to stay, and she’ll just be 75 feet into the park," said the chairwoman.
Palm Springs City Council signed off on the agreement, which guarantees Marilyn's presence in the downtown park for the next 25 years, solidifying the statue’s long-term role as a city landmark.
While many locals and tourists alike were out filming and taking pictures of the statue in her new location, the move comes after years of legal disputes, as P.S. Resorts sought a new home for Marilyn. The statue’s relocation marks a significant turning point for both the monument and Palm Springs, offering a fresh chapter for the iconic figure, who has become synonymous with the city.
With Marilyn now securely in her new location, the community can look forward to the statue’s continued role as one of Palm Springs’ most recognizable landmarks.
