Airline Seats Passenger Next to Dead Body on International Flight
An international flight turned unsettling when a woman passed away mid-flight, leaving the airline crew with an unusual dilemma—where to place her. The Qatar Airways flight from Melbourne, Australia, to Venice, Italy, had no designated space for such an emergency, so the crew reportedly propped the deceased woman in a seat next to a couple and covered her with a blanket. The passengers, disturbed by the situation, asked to be moved, but their request was denied.
During The Roggin Report, contributors Anthony Turk and Katrina Dixon weighed in on the bizarre situation.
Turk, taking a lighthearted approach, quipped, “I’ve been on plenty of flights where the person next to me wouldn’t stop talking. Sitting next to a dead body might not have been the worst experience.”
Dixon, on the other hand, was shocked at the lack of preparation. “With the millions of flights every week, we don’t have a better plan for this? There should be a designated space or procedure—nobody should have to sit next to a deceased passenger.”
When asked if the affected couple should receive compensation, both contributors agreed. Turk suggested, “They should get free airfare for life—at least first-class international tickets.” Dixon added, “And if they need counseling, the airline should cover that too.”
This incident raises questions about airline protocols for in-flight medical emergencies. Should airlines have a dedicated space for situations like this, or was the crew simply following the best available option?
