Survey Finds 25% of Millennials Want to Leave the U.S.—Would You?

Are Americans, particularly millennials, ready to leave the United States behind? A new Tucker Research survey suggests that 25% of millennials and 18% of Midwestern residents are considering relocating abroad.

The survey also found that 44% of respondents have always dreamed of living in another country, indicating that for many, this is a long-held desire rather than just an escape plan.

NBC Palm Springs contributors Jim Walker and Jill Marie Plaza weighed in on the topic.

"There’s way too much anger and division in this country," Walker said. "But let’s be real—those divisions exist in other countries, too. It’s not just an American issue."

Plaza, who has lived abroad, agrees that moving overseas isn't always as ideal as it seems. "The grass always appears greener until you experience it firsthand. Every country has political tensions—ours just happens to be under a bigger spotlight right now."

When asked where they’d move, Italy was the top choice. "Italy in a heartbeat!" Plaza exclaimed, citing the food and Mediterranean views. Walker agreed, adding, "Italians are sexy, right?"

As political tensions rise in the U.S., will more people seriously consider leaving? Walker believes discontent will grow, but Plaza argues that political turmoil is universal—it just depends on how much it's covered in the media.

Would you leave the U.S. for a fresh start abroad?
