Coachella Valley Faces Strong Winds and Dust Advisory This Weekend

The Coachella Valley is currently enduring strong winds that are sweeping across the region, causing cooler temperatures and creating hazardous conditions. A windblown dust advisory has been issued for several cities, including Banning, Cathedral City, and Indio, effective from 4 a.m. this morning through noon Monday. With wind gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour and peaking at 65 miles per hour on Saturday night and Sunday, air quality in these areas is expected to fluctuate between good and hazardous.

Residents are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid vigorous outdoor activity as dust and dirt are being stirred up by the powerful winds. The winds have brought a welcomed drop in temperatures, with Sunday’s high expected to reach 72°F and Monday cooling to the upper 60s. Overnight lows will dip to the upper 40s through Monday, with temperatures climbing back to the low 50s by Tuesday. While the winds may cause discomfort, they are providing a temporary relief from the usual warmth in the valley
