The Carnivore Diet: Health Hack or Hype?

For years, we’ve been told a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meat is the key to good health. But a growing number of people are skipping the plants altogether and embracing the carnivore diet, a way of eating that consists entirely of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy—no plant-based foods allowed.

Advocates point to Arctic populations that have survived for generations on animal-based diets, claiming benefits such as weight loss and improved gut health. On The Roggin Report, Jamie Baker voiced her strong support. “That’s what I do, that’s what I’ve been doing, and that’s what I’ll continue to do,” she said. “I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’m fit.”

But not everyone is convinced. Doug Baker countered with a more cautious approach, suggesting that dietary trends often come and go. “It’s another grab for a specialized diet that’s supposed to do you a lot of good,” he argued. “But if you study it, it can do a lot of harm, too. What happened to just moderation and balance?”

Fred Roggin added to the debate, pointing out how studies on food and health often contradict each other. “One year, chocolate is bad for you. The next, it’s good for you. The same thing happened with red wine,” he said. “I don’t even know what’s good or bad anymore.”

As diet trends continue to evolve, one thing remains clear—nutrition advice is always changing. While some swear by the carnivore diet, others believe a well-rounded approach is still the safest bet.
