Clouds, Cooler Temps, and Rain Chances Arrive in Southern California
Clouds have moved into Southern California, bringing cooler temperatures and a chance of rain, particularly west of the Coachella Valley. Today’s highs will be slightly below normal, with Palm Springs reaching 62°F and Indio 66°F, as overcast skies dominate the region.
Radar shows rain already moving into Central California, with showers expected to reach San Gorgonio Pass by this evening. However, the Coachella Valley is expected to receive only hit-and-miss light showers, with totals ranging from a few hundredths of an inch to a tenth of an inch in some areas.
Meanwhile, a winter storm warning is in effect for mountains above 4,000 feet through Friday morning, with up to nine inches of snow possible near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Snow levels will drop from 8,500 feet to 4,000 feet by Thursday evening, potentially bringing flurries to Idyllwild.
Winds will strengthen tonight, with the strongest gusts expected Thursday. Areas near San Gorgonio Pass, Desert Hot Springs, and North Indio will see sustained winds above 30 mph, prompting a wind advisory through Friday morning.
Looking ahead, skies will clear by Friday, with warmer weekend temps—78°F Saturday and 81°F Sunday—before the next rain chances return Tuesday and Thursday next week.
