Coachella Valley Weather Update: Cloudy Skies, Light Rain, and Winds
Happy Thursday, everyone! Our friends Jackie and Shadow have been reporting significant snowfall in the higher elevations. As for the valley itself, while some people have spotted sprinkles on their cars and I felt a few drops last night, there hasn’t been any measurable precipitation. The closest we’ve seen is a quarter of an inch in Whitewater, with similar amounts in Cabazon. Yucca Valley saw a few hundredths of an inch, while further west, Ontario recorded three-quarters of an inch and Los Angeles saw about a half an inch of rain.
Looking at the weather system, it appears the center of the storm is moving inland, and while there are scattered thunderstorms north of Los Angeles, they’re mostly affecting the mountains. The forecast model indicates very light rain in the Coachella Valley tonight, with totals looking minimal—around a few hundredths of an inch. For example, Palm Springs might receive just 0.05 inches, and similar small amounts are expected in areas like India. Most of this will occur from midnight through 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, with only light sprinkles expected.
The mountains, however, will continue to get snow. Up to 48 inches could accumulate in some mountain communities, with Snow Summit expecting 3 to 5 more inches of snow. Winds have been a concern across the valley today, particularly in wind-prone areas like Desert Hot Springs, North Palm Springs, and the 62 Corridor. Gusty conditions will persist through Friday but should start to ease over the weekend, making for a much more pleasant Saturday and Sunday.
Currently, temperatures are in the 60s in downtown Palm Springs and the 50s in areas like Indio. Overnight, we’ll see cooler temperatures, dipping into the 40s in some locations. By Friday, the storm system will be moving eastward, and we can expect 60s through the morning. If you're heading to the B&P, the weather will be mild, with temperatures staying in the 60s until 10 p.m., after which we’ll dip into the high 50s.
The weekend is looking much brighter. With a high-pressure ridge moving in, temperatures will rise and we can look forward to warmer conditions. By Sunday, we should be in the low 80s, perfect for outdoor plans! The chance of rain will return next week, but for now, enjoy the sunny and warm weekend ahead.
Here’s your seven-day forecast: high 60s for Friday, with more sunshine and warmer temperatures heading into Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned for updates, and have a great rest of your Thursday!
