Firebirds sweep back-to-back in Calgary

It was a successful trip to Calgary this week for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. A 6-1 win on Tuesday night was followed up by an 8-2 win on Wednesday. The Firebirds set a franchise record and scored seven goals in the second period on Wednesday. Daniel Sprong had a natural hat trick. Mitchell Stephens, John Hayden, Ty Nelson and Ian McKinnon also found the back of the net during the second period. McKinnon had a goal in the first period as well. With the win, the Firebirds have now won eight out of their last nine games. Good enough for 70 points on the season and the top spot in the Pacific Division. The Firebirds return home on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. to take on the Colorado Eagles.
