Exploring Desert X: “Five Things You Can’t Wear on TV” Brings Art to the Horizon

Desert X 2024 has arrived, and NBC Palm Springs got an early look at one of its most intriguing installations—"Five Things You Can’t Wear on TV" by artist Raphael Hefti.

Set against the stunning landscape of the Cross Trail in Palm Desert, this large-scale installation stretches between two distant points, forming a single line that shimmers and vibrates in the wind. Constructed from a woven polymer fiber originally designed for fire hoses, the piece reacts to its environment, reflecting light and creating a dynamic, ever-changing visual experience.

Visitors are encouraged to interpret the installation however they see fit. For some, it might resemble a zip line or a stretched guitar string, while others may see an abstract connection between space and movement. The experience evolves the longer one stands still and takes in the surroundings.

This is just the beginning of our Desert X journey, with many more installations to explore. Join us next week as we continue our tour through this immersive art experience.
