New in Theaters: Mickey 17, In The Lost Lands, and F. Mary Kill

The Agua Caliente Entertainment Report, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos, takes a look at three new films hitting valley theaters this weekend.

First up is In The Lost Lands, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Mila Jovovich and Dave Bautista. Based on a short story by George R.R. Martin, the film follows a witch and a hunter on a perilous journey. Manny the Movie Guy calls the story “convoluted” with “lackluster effects” and says even its charismatic leads can’t save this film. Final rating: one and a half out of four.

Next is the genre-blending F. Mary Kill, starring Lucy Hale as a woman navigating the dating world—only to discover one of her suitors may be a serial killer. While the film successfully blends romance, comedy, and mystery at times, Manny says it loses steam near the end. Final rating: two and a half out of four.

Finally, Mickey 17 brings Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho back to the big screen with Robert Pattinson starring as an expendable worker sent to colonize an ice planet. Based on the novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton, the film explores themes of class and survival, much like Bong’s previous works Parasite and Snowpiercer. Manny calls the film uneven but visually stunning. Final rating: three out of four.
