Palm Springs Approves $70K for LGBTQ+ Monument in Frances Stevens Park
The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission has approved $70,000 to fund a portion of the installation costs for an LGBTQ+ monument to be placed in Frances Stevens Park. The monument, which will be donated by Greater Palm Springs Pride, is expected to cost a total of $500,000. The approved funds will cover expenses such as off-site assembly, foundation work, hardware, and other elements needed for the installation. Local artist Jim Isermann will design the artwork, contributing to its unique and meaningful representation. Commissioners also reviewed and approved the project’s budget, along with plans for digital content to accompany the monument. The approval ensures that the necessary steps can begin, but further approvals from the city attorney will be required before moving forward. This monument is seen as an important addition to Palm Springs, reflecting the city’s commitment to celebrating LGBTQ+ history and culture. It will serve as a permanent, visible reminder of the contributions and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. The project aligns with the city’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and honor diversity. Once fully funded and completed, the monument will become an iconic feature of Frances Stevens Park. Local residents and visitors alike are looking forward to the finished piece, which will undoubtedly be a source of pride for the entire community. With continued support and additional funding, the monument project is on track to be completed in the near future.
