BNP Paribas Open: Day Six at Indian Wells
The BNP Paribas Open, often referred to as the Fifth Slam, is in full swing at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and the action on Sunday marked an exciting chapter in the tournament's second week.
On the women's side, Iga Swiatek, the defending champion, delivered a clinical performance in her third-round match against Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska. Swiatek, who has made a habit of dominant displays on the hard courts of Indian Wells, was in complete control from the start. She won the opening 10 games, sealing a 6-2 victory in the second set. With this win, Swiatek improved her record at the event to an impressive 20-2 and now has her sights set on becoming the first woman to win three titles at Indian Wells. "I'm happy that I got my intensity up in the last game and could close it with big confidence," Swiatek said, reflecting on the dominant win.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side, American Tommy Paul has continued his standout run at the event. After making a semi-final appearance last year, Paul is making waves again this year. He defeated former champion Cameron Norrie in straight sets, 7-5 in the second, to advance to the fourth round. Paul has yet to drop a set at the tournament, and he's aiming for his first Masters 1000 title on the ATP Tour. "It was a super weird match, a lot of breaks," Paul noted after the win. "It was an up-and-down match on both sides, but it was a good day, too."
In other notable action, Stefanos Tsitsipas, the number eight seed, was in top form, cruising past Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. The Greek star, fresh off a title win in Dubai, extended his win streak to seven matches. Tsitsipas looks to continue his momentum as he pushes deeper into the tournament.
As the second week heats up, the USA Showdown between Jack Draper and Jenson Brooksby is the matchup to watch on Stadium 1. Fans attending or watching at home can catch all the action on Tennis Channel, which is available via Spectrum, Dish Network, DirecTV, and YouTube, as well as through the Tennis Channel app.
