College of the Desert offers free tax filing assistance for residents

College of the Desert is helping residents file their taxes at no cost through the volunteer income tax assistance program, a service designed for individuals making $75,000 or less per year.

IRS-certified volunteers are available to assist community members with filing, ensuring they receive the support needed to navigate the tax process. School officials emphasize that while walk-ins are welcome, appointments will be prioritized.

"Anybody in the general public who has an adjusted gross income of less than $75,000 can take advantage of this program," a school representative shared. "It also provides valuable real-world experience for our business students, who gain hands-on knowledge in tax preparation."

The free filing services will be available at the Indio campus through April 12th and at the Palm Desert campus on Fridays through April 11th. In 2024, the program helped secure nearly $573,000 in refunds for local residents, reinforcing its impact on the community.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, residents are encouraged to contact College of the Desert.
