Lizzie Schmeling Talks Carpenters Tribute, Theater, and Upcoming Shows

On Desert Entertainment, Lizzie Schmeling joined the show to discuss her busy schedule as one of the hardest-working performers in the Coachella Valley. She has multiple productions lined up, including a Carpenters Tribute Show, Growing Closer, happening Sunday, March 16, at 7 p.m. at Spiritual Center of the Desert in Palm Desert. The show is a personal homage to Karen Carpenter’s music and its deep connection to Schmeling’s Southern California roots.

Schmeling, a Joshua Tree native, also talked about the growth of the local theater scene. She is set to star in God of Carnage at Desert Ensemble Theatre, opening Friday for a two-week run. She is also preparing for her return as Penny in Hairspray, which will run April 11-13 at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater, produced by Desert Theatricals.

In addition to performing, Schmeling is passionate about youth theater. She works with Desert Theatricals' free youth arts program, sponsored by the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory. Her advice to young performers is simple: don’t wait—create your own opportunities.
