BNP Paribas Open: Świątek, Andreeva, and Medvedev Advance to Semifinals
NBC Palm Springs Sports Desk, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos, has your BNP Paribas Open update as the tournament heats up in the quarterfinals.
Defending champion Iga Świątek continues to dominate at Indian Wells, securing her 10th consecutive victory at the event with a strong performance against Zheng Qinwen. The former world number one made history by becoming the first woman to reach four consecutive semifinals at the WTA 1000 event and the third to win three straight quarterfinals.
“It got really windy, which made it super tricky,” Świątek said after the match. “But I wanted to stay composed and focused, and I’m glad I did that.”
She now faces 16-year-old sensation Mirra Andreeva, who claimed a straight-sets win over Elina Svitolina to reach her first semifinal at Indian Wells. Andreeva is riding high after her title run in Dubai, where she defeated Świątek along the way.
“I knew she was going to fight for every ball, so I just tried to overfight her,” Andreeva said.
On the men’s side, Daniil Medvedev endured a tough three-set battle against 20-year-old Frenchman Arthur Fils. The fifth seed finally sealed the match on his third match point and will now face Holger Rune in the semifinals.
With the competition intensifying, fans can catch all the action live daily on Tennis Channel.
