Chilly Temps and Gusty Winds Continue in Coachella Valley

Happy Thursday, everyone! After a fast-moving storm brought rain and chilly temperatures to Southern California, blue skies have returned to the Coachella Valley. However, today's high of 62°F was a stark contrast to the record-breaking 98°F from 2017—making it 18 degrees below average for this time of year.

Temperatures are even colder in higher elevations, with Yucca Valley dropping to 42°F and Big Bear expecting an overnight low of just 16°F. Winds are also picking up, with areas like Desert Hot Springs experiencing sustained speeds of 20 mph and gusts reaching the 30s and 40s.

Looking ahead to Friday, a shortwave system passing to the north will bring a slight chance of scattered showers, but any accumulation in the Coachella Valley is expected to be minimal—just a few hundredths of an inch. Mountain communities, however, could see up to a quarter-inch of rain, along with additional snowfall.

For those heading to the BNP Paribas Open, Friday’s forecast includes 50s in the morning, warming into the 60s by the afternoon, before cooling back into the 50s after sunset.

The good news? Warmer conditions return this weekend as high pressure builds over Southern California. Highs will climb into the 70s by Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching the 80s by next Thursday.
