White House Faces Legal Battle Over Mass Deportations as Economic Policies Move Forward

A government shutdown was averted over the weekend, but the White House now finds itself in a heated legal battle over a controversial deportation move.

President Trump defended the administration’s decision to deport roughly 300 Venezuelan immigrants, alleged to be gang members, to a prison in El Salvador. The White House cited the Alien Enemies Act, a rarely used law invoked only in times of war, to justify the deportations. However, a federal judge swiftly blocked the move, ordering the flights back to the U.S. The administration argues that the ruling came after the planes had already left U.S. territory, setting up a legal fight over whether the court order was defied.

Meanwhile, the White House is moving forward with its economic policies, despite growing public disapproval. A new NBC News poll found that 54 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy. The president continues to defend his tariff strategy, with new reciprocal tariffs on nearly all trading partners set to take effect in two weeks.

Democrats remain divided on how to respond to the administration’s policies, particularly after Senate leaders supported a Republican-backed funding bill to keep the government open. The clash over presidential power continues to deepen, as legal and economic tensions mount in Washington.
