Federal Budget Cuts Threaten HIV Prevention Funding; DAP Health Urges Community Support

The federal government is considering significant budget cuts that may eliminate CDC funding for HIV prevention, raising concerns about the future of local healthcare services. DAP Health, a leading healthcare provider in the Coachella Valley, is urging the community to support its mission amid these uncertainties.

In a recent NBC Palm Springs segment, Steven Henke highlighted the potential impact of these cuts with insights from DAP Health CEO David Brinkman. "Over the last 40 years, we've made incredible progress toward ending the HIV epidemic," Brinkman stated. "If these cuts happen, we could see 44,000 new infections."

Brinkman explained that the federal government intends to shift HIV care costs to state and local governments. "Even the wealthiest states can't afford this care," Brinkman warned, underscoring the need for community support.

DAP Health serves approximately 88,000 patients in the Coachella Valley, providing inclusive, compassionate care. Brinkman reassured the community of DAP Health’s commitment: "This organization is going nowhere. We’ve been here for 40 years, and we’ll continue to be here for this community."

With public funding in jeopardy, DAP Health is turning to private donors. On March 29th, the organization will host its 31st Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, known as "The Chase," to raise crucial funds. The event honors the impact of individual donors who enable DAP Health to maintain and expand its services.

Brinkman emphasized, "Local donors have the power to make a real impact in our community, regardless of federal funding decisions."

As the federal budget decision looms, DAP Health calls on the Coachella Valley community to support its efforts in safeguarding access to HIV prevention and care services.
